This past Tuesday on Rowan campus, I competed in the Lyrical Alliance fall poetry slam and took first place! This was an exciting moment for me as a young slam poet for two reasons. First, I desperately needed the money (first place won a $25 gift card); second, first and second place winners get to join Rowan’s team to compete at CUPSI (College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational) in New York City in April 2013. This is a huge honor since CUPSI is the university equivalent of the National Poetry Slam.

For those of you who don’t know, a poetry slam is a friendly competition between poets where they are judged by random members of the audience on their performance on a scale from 0.0-10.0.
